Goals and Objectives
The city of Natchez believes that parks and Recreation experiences enhance our
citizens’ opportunities toward the pursuit of a full, balanced, and meaningful
lifestyle. Meaningful leisure is an essential source of self-esteem, and positive self
image. Children’s play is essential to the human development process. Leisure
opportunities for the youth provide positive lifestyle choices and alternatives to self
destructive behavior. Community recreation reduces alienation, loneliness and anti social
behaviors. Community recreation also promotes ethnic
and cultural harmony.
Recreation Council Direction Statement
The purpose of the Natchez Recreation Council is to assure that the Recreation Department provides quality leisure park facilities, services, and programs.
Recreation Department Goals/Objectives
To identify community recreational needs.
To analyze and prescribe what should be done to improve the conditions of existing parks
and facilities.
To coordinate area resources for assisting in capital improvements of our recreational facilities.
To analyze fiscal constraints, needs and opportunities for providing financial support to our park and recreation system.
To meet recreational needs with maximum effectiveness and with minimum expense.
To develop a comprehensive long range parks/recreation master plan in order to systematically achieve our goals, objectives, and needs.
To utilize to the fullest extent, all existing parks, recreational sites and facilities.
To provide leisure services and programs for all age groups.
To plan and coordinate recreational programs as either a Facilitator; a Co-Sponsor; or a Direct Sponsor.
To effectively promote and publicize area recreational programs and events.
